Studio Residency — 2027–2028 Season

Mille Plateaux / Centre Chorégraphique National la Rochelle

France, La Rochelle

Overview of the structure(s)

Mille Plateaux, the National Choreographic Centre of La Rochelle, directed by Olivia Grandville, is a space for creation, experimentation and artistic innovation; it aims to reflect the vitality and diversity of the contemporary dance scene and to serve as a home for choreographic cultures in the broadest sense. This project fosters a cross-generational and cross-cultural dialogue to embrace all forms of dance and blur boundaries, based on four principles: encounter, innovation, cooperation and transmission.

Description of the open call

Mille Plateaux is launching its call for proposals for residencies to take place at the CCN between September 2027 and July 2028.

Mille Plateaux is open to all forms of choreographic work and to a diversity of aesthetics, styles and physical techniques.

We are drawn to projects that challenge the conventional frameworks of choreographic creation, that take the risk of inventing new forms and new relationships with spaces, disciplines and audiences. We are particularly keen on multidisciplinary approaches and hybrid forms, and on projects that bring dance together with other artistic fields or that experiment with alternative ways of creating work.

We also appreciate works conceived for non-traditional spaces, as well as projects that explore the relationships between dance, cinema and, more broadly, the camera and the image.

Eligibility requirements

  • We will pay particular attention to projects involving at least three performers, and even more so to new works intended for larger casts.
At a time when production conditions may lead artistic teams to reduce cast sizes and scale down productions, we wish, on the contrary, to help preserve the possibility of creating choreographic works designed for several performers, for large stages. We believe that supporting these forms is essential today to maintain the full diversity of styles and ambitions within choreographic creation.
  • We will also pay particular attention to applications from choreographers and artistic teams who have not yet been hosted in residence at Mille Plateaux.

Offered support

  • Access to the Fromentin Chapel studio
  • Financial support for the creative process
  • Accommodation for up to five people in the CCN’s flats
  • Technical support on the day of arrival and the day of departure from the residency. Outside these technical support sessions, the teams must be able to work independently in the studio.
