Artist-in-Residence Program at the Faculty of Medicine and Midwifery

Claude Bernard University of Lyon 1

France, Lyon

Description of the open call

As part of the development of its new cultural policy, Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University (UCBL1) has established an annual creative residency focused on an Art and Science project, involving its laboratories, academic departments, students, and teaching, research, administrative, and technical staff. This sixth edition will take place as an immersive experience within the Faculty of Medicine and Midwifery – Lyon Sud, centered on the theme “Thinking About the Other – Caring for the Other.”

This residency is set within an environment where issues of care, ethics, and human relationships occupy a central place in teaching, professional practice, and research activities. It will build on initiatives already underway within the faculty, particularly those centered on the “Living Together” teaching unit, which addresses topics such as inclusion, community life, vulnerable social groups, and medical ethics.

The residency will be based on an immersive and co-constructive approach involving students, faculty members, faculty-researchers, researchers, administrative and technical staff, healthcare professionals, and, where relevant, patient partners. Particular attention will be paid to student participation, prioritizing approaches that encourage their active involvement in the creative process.

The project will also be able to draw on the expertise and work of the research laboratories at the Faculty of Medicine and Midwifery – Lyon Sud, particularly in the fields of nutrition, oncology, and research ethics, in order to foster dialogue between artistic creation and scientific research.

A public presentation is scheduled for October 2027, with the goal of being included in the program of the 2027 Lyon Dance Biennale.
