To begin with, you have to imagine a very simple, very ordinary image. In this new opus with its dreamlike title, Christian Rizzo deploys the spells of an organic dance, inventing a dancing humanity with the help of details and temporal ellipses. To make the invisible visible, he makes Philippe Jaccottet's words his own: “Nothing but space, and in the middle, this eternal murmur” (Rien que l’espace, et au milieu, ce murmure, éternel). We have to go back to the beginnings of the fragile association founded in 1996 by Christian Rizzo. Defying expectations, the choreographer has never ceased to present dancing objects, performances, group and solo pieces. Christian Rizzo has left his mark on contemporary dance. A possible epilogue to his trilogy of the invisible, À l’ombre d’un vaste détail hors tempête is based on the principles of temporal ellipses, creating a dialogue between fragments and dramaturgical continuity. The performers caught in this in-between space – in relation to author Célia Houdart’s text – form a collective in search of a certain plenitude, between the concreteness of gestures and their poetic power.
Christian Rizzo
Christian Rizzo, choreographer, visual artist and curator, creates works at the crossroads of different worlds: dance, visual arts and music echo each other in sensitive ways. After working in rock music, fashion and the visual arts, he discovered contemporary dance in the 1990s. In 1996, he created the association fragile, a laboratory for a refined aesthetic in a universe combining abstraction and fiction. From 2015 to 2024, he directed the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier. Now based in Aspet, in the Pyrénées, he re-launched the association fragile in 2025 to continue his explorations and develop new artistic projects.
