Weaving connections between dance practice and dance culture in dance instruction

A maximum of 22 trainees

• Acquire the tools to develop a choreographic culture in dance classes;
• Bring together the perspectives of dancers and audience members;
• Establish connections between practice, choreographic culture, art history, and history;
• Draw on sources of inspiration from choreographic culture and dance research.

The sessions will take place in classrooms and studios.

• Choreographic practice workshops, visual analysis workshops, and the development of teaching methods;
• Sharing of resources (bibliography, filmography, web resources, etc.);
• Exploration of dance archives;
• Group work and discussions to exchange experiences and engage in collective reflection.

Laurence Pagès

Laurence Pagès is a choreographer and author of books on dance. She develops projects that intertwine choreographic creation, literary writing, and artistic activities. She works within the field of research-creation, while also producing challenging works for young audiences. Together with Pascale Tardif, she has written Danser avec les albums jeunesse and Danser avec les œuvres du musée, published by Canopé. She has also co-authored three books with Sylviane Pagès that launched the children’s book series at the National Dance Center: Ma danse, tout un art! in 2022, Cette danse, quel spectacle! in 2023, and La danse, tant d’histoires! in 2026.

Sylviane Pagès

Sylviane Pagès is a dance researcher at Paris 8 University, focusing on the history of contemporary dance in France and butoh. She has published Le butô en France, malentendus et fascination (CND, 2015) and co-edited, with Isabelle Launay, Memoirs and History in Dance (L’Harmattan, 2009) and, with Isabelle Launay, Mélanie Papin, and Guillaume Sintès, Dancing in ’68: International Perspectives (Deuxième époque, 2018). She is committed to sharing the findings of dance research and gives lectures in various settings for audiences of all ages. She has also co-authored three books with choreographer Laurence Pagès to launch the youth collection at the National Dance Center: Ma danse, tout un art! in 2022, Cette danse, quel spectacle! in 2023, and La danse, tant d’histoires! in 2026.

To apply for financial assistance, please submit your request no later than 6 weeks before the start of the training by contacting the administrative coordinator to complete your application (AFDAS, France Travail, Adami, etc.).
Registrations are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and based on the relevance of your background if there are prerequisites.

Your registration will be finalized after your application is approved and your payment is received.

A self-assessment is conducted at the beginning and end of the training.
A certificate of completion is issued to each participant at the end of the training.
A questionnaire evaluating the training and what was learned is sent to the trainees after the course.
