Sensory imaginings

A maximum of 20 trainees

• Connect one’s perceptions with one’s mental representations of a choreographic work;
• Gain a physical understanding of the perceptual cues in movement that various choreographic styles elicit;
• Know how to use the AFCMD tools to analyze the perceptual pathways suggested by a dance

Practical workshops (improvisation and development of movement material) combining choreographers’ insights with sensory exploration.

Analysis of works on video: identifying connections between performance and the choreographer’s poetic world.

Jean-Christophe Paré

Jean-Christophe Paré began his career as a dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet in 1976. Appointed Principal Dancer in 1984, he nonetheless chose to champion, within the Paris Opera’s Choreographic Research Group (starting in 1981), the possibility of opening new avenues for exploring the art of performance. He collaborated with numerous choreographers from movements as diverse as modern dance (P. Taylor; J. Limon; T. Tharps), contemporary dance movements originating in the United States (M. Cunningham; D. Gordon; K. Armitage; D. Dunn; A. Degroat; L. Childs; A. Nikolaïs; C. Carlson), the young French dance scene (D. Bagouet; F. Verret; R. Chopinot; P. Découflé; D. Larrieu; K. Saporta), German expressionist dance (S. Linke), and, later on, Renaissance (A. Francalanci) and Baroque (F. Lancelot) dance. From 2019 to 2024, he returned to choreography, working with Pol Pi, Hervé Robbe, and Jean-Christophe Boclé. His work with the Ministry of Culture’s Dance Inspection Office (2000–2007) and as director of the dance departments at the École Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille (2007–2011) and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (2014–2018) have fostered in him a passion for approaching choreographic works, which he likes to connect to questions regarding contemporary creative processes. He regularly teaches at various higher education and professional training institutions (Fondation Royaumont, SE.S.TA Prague, ATD Amsterdam) … dedicated to supporting the younger generation, both in matters of performance and in the process of choreographic creation.

• To apply for financial assistance, please submit your request no later than 6 weeks before the start of the training program by contacting the administrative office to complete your application (AFDAS, France Travail, Adami, etc.).
• Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and based on the relevance of your background if there are prerequisites.
• Your registration will be finalized after your application has been approved and your payment has been received.

• A self-assessment is conducted at the beginning and end of the training.
• A certificate of completion is issued to each participant at the end of the training.
• A questionnaire evaluating the training and what was learned is sent to the trainees after the course.
