Rewriting: From Repertoire to Self
Zoë Demoustier
Through technical and creative exercises, we will work on embodiment: how can the body express itself without representing nor performing meaning? How can a physical language emerge, bolstered by intensity, precision and physical presence? What does performing mean when connecting choreographic composition with writing oneself?

Zoë Demoustier
Zoë Demoustier is a Brussels-based choreographer and performer with a background in contemporary dance, Dutch mime, and cultural studies. The body serves as the starting point for her work, linking visual representations and movement to current and socially engaged topics to create choreographic pieces featuring diverse bodies. Known for her choreographic works centered on societal themes, Zoë collaborates with various companies, including Kabinet K, Michiel Vandevelde, Alma Söderberg/Manyone, Iris Bouche/Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, David Weber Krebs, and Marcelo Evelin. Her performances include *Unfolding an Archive* (in collaboration with STUK), BeatingChoir/Choeur Battant (BRONKS BE & Le Carrousel CA), Nesten (fABULEUS), and the highly acclaimed What Remains (Ultima Vez). She has built a broad network across Flanders, Brussels, and the Netherlands, and works internationally in cities such as Vienna, Montreal, and Milan.
In 2022, she began a new collaboration as a choreographer with Ultima Vez, continuing her commitment to blending movement, imagery, and sound across generations and artistic styles. The latest creation to emerge from this partnership, *Hear the Silence* (laGeste, Ultima Vez, KVS), has been on tour since early 2026.
Zoë is currently working on *The Wave*, a new production with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in which she explores the choreographic legacy of the “Flemish Wave” (Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus, Alain Platel, among others). In this work, she examines the influence of this repertoire on new generations and how references to dance heritage can be a source of joy in dance, rather than a constraint. This piece will bring together dancers from Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, young performers, a dancer with a disability from Platform K, and performers who participated in the creation of the referenced works.
Zoë is also a researcher affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and a professor at the Academy of Theatre and Dance – AHK in Amsterdam as well as at the Kunsthumaniora in Brussels.
