The publication of this guide follows numerous meetings and discussions with dance artists, teachers, technical managers and healthcare professionals, who have highlighted the need for a framework for reflection and recommendations for dance studios. This guide therefore sets out the fundamental elements required to ensure the safety, comfort and quality of all dance activities, whether involving amateur or professional artists of all ages. It covers creative and rehearsal studios as well as teaching studios and even the stage itself. The sections cover the building as a whole, the floor, lighting, thermal and acoustic insulation, ancillary spaces and equipment, with particular attention paid to issues of accessibility, energy and environmental sustainability, and the protection of users’ health.

Whilst not claiming to be exhaustive, this guide sets out the knowledge, practices and regulations current at the time of writing, and we urge readers to remain vigilant regarding any subsequent developments – particularly regulatory changes – that may need to be taken into account.

This factsheet is a practical guide on preventing and combating gender-based and sexual violence (GBV), aimed at victims, witnesses, businesses and public authorities. It clarifies four fundamental concepts – sexist behaviour, sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape – and outlines the relevant legal frameworks (the Criminal Code, the Labour Code and the General Civil Service Code). It also lists resources and tools specific to the performing arts and dance education sectors, to help understand, prevent and respond to such behaviour.

This practical guide sets out the minimum wages applicable to dance artists, depending on their employer’s main activity and the relevant collective agreement. The document covers, in particular, the definitions and scope of the various collective agreements, minimum wages and the methods of payment (by the hour, per performance or monthly). It distinguishes between subsidised and non-subsidised organisations, and provides information on travel allowances and the wages applicable during production periods or on tour.

This factsheet explains to employers in the performing arts sector (companies, venues, festivals) which national collective agreement (CCN) to apply to their employees. It sets out how to classify jobs and determine minimum wages according to the employee’s status (technical or administrative). It also points out that wage and allowance levels are regularly renegotiated by the social partners and extended by the Ministry of Labour.

This factsheet summarises two workshops on safety in the performing arts. The first deals with audience reception and the protection of property (artworks, sets, costumes), setting out the organisers’ responsibilities and the necessary insurance cover. The second explores the legal and social responsibilities of the various stakeholders (artists, technicians, volunteers, producers) in the event of an incident, as well as the contractual limits of liability.
