Réciprocité

Cultural rights, everyone’s participation in cultural activities, and cooperation are central to civil society’s discourse and permeate the dance sector. In response to these challenges and to develop resources and methodologies, the CN D is launching a new program for arts and cultural education and outreach in 2025: Réciprocité.  

Based on innovative methodologies of cooperation and participation, Réciprocité provides a framework in which each dance project will be developed with and for the participants and the professionals from the organizations supporting them. Attention will be at the heart of the projects: attention to the participants and their support staff, to the context of the organizations, to the projects of the invited artists, to desires—whether already expressed or still emerging—to the relationships that form, and to the temporary community that takes shape.  

Paying attention to and caring for contexts and people helps create ecosystems where dance projects can take root more firmly, with more lasting effects for everyone. Through practices that combine physical and psychological, intimate and collective, artistic and aesthetic experiences, dance fosters encounters with and understanding of otherness, the development of a shared sense of meaning and mutual respect, critical thinking, and the power to take action.

The implementation details for each project will be developed collaboratively with the participants and professionals from each organization, based on a common framework that includes opportunities for meetings and discussion, project development sessions, workshops on choreography and dance outreach, cultural outings, and opportunities for groups to interact with one another.

The first pilot season will take place in Seine-Saint-Denis, location of the Centre national de la danse.
