360° histoires de danse en un jour

The “360° History of Dance in a Day” program brings together resources and training for teams from cultural organizations, artists, and educators to collaboratively develop an immersive day-long experience for students.  

The 360° day is designed as a series of cooperative challenges aimed at sparking students’ curiosity about dance and its history. These challenges invite students to discover and connect dances from different eras and regions. Listening to a description of a dance from 1913, feeling the collective energy in a cypher, learning to notate a movement, interpreting a previously unknown traditional dance, deciphering a score, and researching the dance of a distant country are all ways to encounter dance and learn about its customs and practices. The circle—a spatial and symbolic figure—runs through all the challenges of the 360° day. Spinning, spiraling, and moving in a circle allow participants to connect with themselves, others, and the world. Through a variety of practices and methods, the challenges are designed to be accessible and recreational, yet equally reflective and educational. They facilitate immersion in choreographic culture. The challenges to be solved and the group work encourage students to engage fully and experience the 360° program to the fullest.

Through this initiative, the CN D supports professionals in developing dance-based arts education projects across all regions. The content and methods of 360° are shared with teams through training, and resources are made available to extend the 360° day experience and to fuel future dance-based arts education projects.
