CN D Pantin

The essential date for amateur practice at the CN D!

The Danses partagées workshops cover all the dances that invest the CN D during a weekend, twice a year! Each time, there are over 1,000 of you who join us passionately: it is the possibility for one and all, as of the age of 8, to discover the repertory of great choreographers and different dance styles. This autumn, American dance in all its forms is being honoured and fourteen workshops will provide an approach to the repertory of Merce Cunningham.

Waacking was then practised in the city’s trendy clubs. The dancers were influenced by the posing of models and the theatrical poses of the great figures of American movies – hence the first name of waacking: “La Garbo”, in allusion to the actress Greta Garbo. Yaïr Barelli has performed for Emmanuelle Huynh, Marlène Monteiro Freitas, Tino Sehgal, Christian Rizzo or else Jérôme Bel. Since 2010, he has been developing his own choreographic practice. Voguing
By Lasseindra
full

Born in Harlem in the 1960s, voguing is not just a dance style, but a real culture which then developed into a black, gay American community, popularised by Madonna’s song Vogue and the famous documentary Paris is Burning. The dancers, brought together in “Balls”, reproduce the poses of models in magazines and fashion shows. Voguing is acted out in three main categories: old way, new way and vogue fem. Voguing does not just mean knowing how to dance, but also shining before the audience. It is a complex art which is often performed in high heels! Lasseindra is coming back this autumn to make the CN D vogue!

Disco
By Marco Berrettini

After becoming the 1978 German disco-dance champion, the choreographer Marco Berrettini is now offering an immersion into this universe: varying the steps of disco dancing and its choreographic materials, in the same way as modern dance adopted movements from folk dancing so as to create its own language. Going from disco, while taking in the abstraction of classic dance and conceptual contemporary dance, is one hell of a project! And a very good introduction to his show, Sorry, do the tour! Again, a disco dance marathon presented at the CN D in October.

Danses de la Nouvelle-Orléans
By Marie Houdin
full

Marie Houdin from the Engrenage company provides an initiation to the New Orleans region of the USA where traditionally brass bands present parades based on a devilishly, irresistible jazz rhythm, mingling African, Caribbean and European influences. As the cradle of jazz, New Orleans has succeeded in conserving what animates this music, calling out for a dance! These parades are accompanied by dancers swaying in front of the cortege of musicians: the First line, followed up by a public swaying after the artists while dancing: the Second line.
