Nine French organisations and five organisations from the southern Mediterranean region active in the field of dance are taking over the CCN-Ballet national de Marseille, the École nationale de Danse de Marseille and cnd.fr to showcase the work of 29 artistic teams they support: performances, discussions, project presentations and screenings.
By launching the Canal project, the CN D is offering to make its resources and spaces available to the entire dance sector. Over two days, the studios of the CCN-Ballet national de Marseille and the École nationale de Danse de Marseille will be taken over by invited cultural organisations (CCNs, CDCNs, state-subsidised and national theatres, festivals, etc.). Since 2020, Canal has also been inviting international organisations; this year, the focus is on the southern Mediterranean.
The aim is to offer, within a shared space and time, new visibility to their projects and the artists they support. The programme and formats are left to the discretion of each organisation: short excerpts, screenings, oral presentations, etc. Creative projects may be presented at various stages of their development: in the early planning stages, whilst seeking funding, or even when finalised and seeking distribution. These spaces thus provide an opportunity for dialogue between the supported artists and professional audiences (funding bodies, programmers, administrators, etc.).
