Luiz de Abreu

After an edition in spring 2020, the CN D continues to travel the carioca Panorama festival with the solo tour of Luiz de Abreu, O Samba do Crioulo Doido. With this piece, the choreographer uses dance to deconstruct racialized identities. By having Calixto Neto replay the stereotypes linked to the representation of the black body, deeply anchored in Brazil, where it is caught between exoticism and eroticism, the choreographer turns the stereotype against itself to better mock the racist unconscious. The violence of his writing then appears commensurate with the urgency of addressing the decolonial question, the legacy of slavery and contemporary relations of domination. Carried by a transgressive humor, the play forms a direct criticism of the subordinate condition to which blacks are assigned.
