Couple dances were a constant presence throughout his childhood. Since then, Massimo Fusco has helped create and pass on numerous balls, while exploring traditional forms – including the pizzica, a variation of the tarantella once performed by his parents – in his own pieces: CORPS SONORES and its version for young audiences, CORPS SONORES JUNIORS. Combining these two experiences, his Bal Magnétique, structured in two parts, offers everyone “a space to dance together.” The opening features a spectacular dance performance, unfolding in a setting that is part prehistoric, part futuristic, featuring three megaliths, during which the performers will freely revive the movements of these ancestral dances, jumping, spinning, and twirling joyfully in close proximity to the audience. Then a participatory ball brings together everyone from 7 to 77 years old who wishes to try their hand – solo, in pairs, or more if the mood strikes – at “ballarella,” a dance still practiced at village festivals until the early 2000s and now on the verge of disappearing. Because to practice a dance is to bring it to life.

Massimo Fusco

Massimo Fusco trained in contemporary dance at the CNSMDP, where he took courses in contemporary dance, improvisation, composition, anatomy, music, and dance history. He developed an interest in performance art and earned a bachelor’s degree in art, dance, and performance from the University of Besançon. The interdisciplinary nature of this artistic field allows him to see it as a realm of possibilities. He then delved deeper into his relationship with writing and spontaneous composition. As a certified Tui Na massage practitioner, he set out to connect artistic practices with somatic methods in the immersive sound installations CORPS SONORES and CORPS SONORES JUNIORS. From September 2022 to July 2026, Massimo Fusco is an associate artist at Les Hivernales – CDCN d’Avignon. From September 2024 to June 2027, the Cie Corps Magnétiques – Massimo Fusco is supported through the TREMPLIN network, an interregional support network in western France, in collaboration with Paris. In 2025, Massimo Fusco will be an artist-in-residence at the Théâtre Louis Aragon in Tremblay-en-France.
