Why does a piece of music become a global hit? Why and how does it irresistibly move us to dance? Recalling his own joy as a child at dancing to any tune he heard or remembered, Bruno Benne has composed a playful dance duet set to Vivaldi’s iconic “Four Seasons,” perfect for children ages four and up. Continuing his creative approach, which for the past ten years has reimagined the codes of Baroque dance in the present, the choreographer creates a dialogue between the ornamentation and musicality of the Belle Danse and the fundamentals of contemporary movement vocabulary. The infinite nuances of the score are mirrored or echoed by the performers’ movements and the sensations they evoke. Every part of the body is put into motion, from the toes to the ears, including the feet, buttocks, elbows, wrists, mouth, and even the nose and eyebrows. A way to introduce a major musical work to children from a very young age, in the present moment and with joy…
Bruno Benne
Bruno Benne graduated from the Paris Conservatory with a major in contemporary dance, and he founded the Beaux-Champs Company in 2013, where he interrogates the Baroque legacy through his resolutely contemporary vision. He has worked steadily with Béatrice Massin and Marie-Geneviève Massé since 2004, and he has also danced and reprised works by pioneering choreographer Francine Lancelot. Combining his research on Baroque art and the American minimalism of choreographer Lucinda Childs, he initiated his new vision of a streamlined Baroque aesthetics which is at the core of all his creations.
