A polysemic category, “classical dance” refers not only to the technique associated with ballet but also to works and artistic careers that stand out for their role in the history of dance, their dissemination, or their renown. Multifaceted and fluid, the concept of “classical dance” varies significantly depending on the context and the forms of dance. Issue No. 15 of the journal Recherche en danse aims to shed light on its evolution and its application to specific movements or periods, as well as its uses in analyzing choreographic works, their reception, and their audience, from various historical, sociological, and postcolonial perspectives.
