Performed for the publication of the book commissioned by the CN D for the “Carnets” collection

Since he created his first piece, Antiquités, this multi-talented artist has created a rich performative alphabet “between dance and voice”, delicately embodied and performed by a faithful troupe of performers. The commission by the Centre national de la danse revives this precious work; Georges Appaix has tried to narrate the choreographic work he has been developing for years in a text destined to the CND’s “Carnets” collection. While he was writing a few pages between shows, Appaix “naturally thought” of turning this future book into a performance on stage. Accompanied by dancer and choreographer Carlotta Sagna, who performed in his latest pieces, he has created a show that fits with his choreographic identity, between reading and performance. This “conversation protocol”, to use the title of one of his pieces, has been inspired by the places and the work “that he has been doing for most of his life”. It is also a way of retracing his own trajectory, whose lightness doesn’t exclude a certain depth and where movement is always put into words.

Né en 1953 à Marseille, smuciste section football, gau­cher, découvre tôt l’ennui, la rêverie et les voix de tierce des chansons populaires italiennes. Diplômé de l’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers, découvre au contact de Madeleine Chiche, Bernard Misrachi et d’Odile Duboc les mystères de l’improvisation et les joies difficiles du travail sur le corps. Travaille parallèlement le saxophone qu’il renonce quelques années plus tard à maîtriser, préférant écou­ter John Coltrane. Devient danseur par effraction, puis chorégraphe sur le tas avec l’aide des danseurs. En trente-cinq années de créations, Il a déroulé sous nos yeux un abécédaire chorégraphique : de A comme Antiquité en passant par Basta, Gauche-Droite, Hypothèses Fragiles, Immédiatement là tout de suite, M. Encore !, Tor­gnoles, Vers un protocole de conversation ? et jusqu’à XYZ ou comment parvenir à ses fins, son ultime création. Sur une commande du CND, il écrit un livre pour la collection « Carnets » et propose à Carlotta Sagna de se lancer dans une dernière aventure : la lecture/perfor­mance Post-scriptum.
