Scène de bal, bals en scène

Ball is a time to celebrate, to feature bodies and encounters… between order and disorder, every ball has its codes and rituals depending on the times and places. Being transgressive, it is captivating. Its history reveals the many shifts and loans between ballroom dancing and stage dances.

This exhibition illustrates the evolution of ball dance and its many representations, both in choreographic and theatrical works, featuring several film excerpts from around the world, from silent to talking films, from black & white to colour.
A new opportunity to highlight the connections between different works, mindsets and cultures, to question the generally accepted boundary between art and social practice and to reveal the extraordinary diversity of the heritage of a moving body.
