During this week, Nicolas Fayol proposes an attempt to extend the notion of ‘floorwork’ while standing on our legs. Even when standing, our hands are in contact with the floor. Guided by our most reliable ally—our weight—we will follow the paths it traces through our limbs and observe the dance it leaves in its wake. Nicolas Fayol trains, teaches, and choreographs using the basics of breakdancing, slowed down, broken down, and simplified. Between technical classes, improvisation workshops, and early morning wake-up calls. Between breakdancing, somatic technique, and dog training. Humans, bipeds, tripeds, and quadrupeds organise themselves with all these arms and legs, with the hope that this organisational work will give rise to dance.

Nicolas Fayol

Nicolas Fayol began breakdancing as a self-taught dancer before training in academic dance at the age of 18. At 20, he began his career as a performer with several choreographers and directors. At the same time, in 2017 he created his first duo piece with Mehdi Baki, Bye-bye myself, followed in 2021 by a second duo, OHHO. Faire Fleurir, created in 2023, is his first solo work. He is part of the multidisciplinary collective Hinterland, with whom he shares a focus on research and transmission to different audiences.
