Tom Grand Mourcel and Vera Gorbatcheva contend that from the moment people walk together, an uprising begins. Based on this principle, the two artists from the DikieIstorii collective of dancers and musicians have conceived an immersive choreographic-sound experience from a first version they created in 2020. The experience invites professionals and non-professionals alike to experience what happens physically when we rise up for a cause. In a convergence of visceral emotions, the audience gradually joins the five performers in a powerful, organic ensemble. Each body protests with all its limbs, each mouth opens to proclaim its refusal and affirm its desire, each step reflects a shared intention. Creative and participatory, this approach, inspired by the famous slogan of the Spanish Republicanrevolutionaries, draws the dynamic link between individual revolts and collective insurrections. It resonates particularly with contemporary social movements, where there is a pressing need to build community together.
Tom Grand Mourcel
Mourcel trained at the CNSMD in Lyon and has a background in hip-hop culture; he has performed for a variety of companies. With his company Dikie Istorii, founded in 2017, he has created “ILS” (2018), “No pasarán!” (2020) and “Solus Break” (2023). He is also developing a significant number of cultural actions and workshops, aimed at both professionals and non-professionals. In 2021, he co-founded the Hoods Flakes collective and the choreographic platform La Feat alongside Chandra Grangean, Lise Messina and Martin Malatray Ravit.
Vera Gorbatcheva
Originally from Russia, this multi-disciplinary artist – musician, singer, painter, acrobat, actress – co-choreographed “No pasarán!” Gorbatcheva trained in ballet and character dance at Nikolay Ogrizkov's school, and then joined the CNSMD in Lyon, where she met Tom Grand Mourcel.
