“In this shared time we’d like to approach improvisation as a basis for work and highlight the importance of the collective. We’d also like to share various choreographic writing tools, enabling us to compose a collective structure in which each person has the place he/she desires within this ephemeral group. We’ll be able to develop a vocabulary at the start of the workshop, through tasks rooted in improvisation protocols and then inscribed in time and space thanks to writing principles inspired by choreographic practices encountered during my career as a performer and my research work in the studio. What is a temporal procedure? What is its purpose? How do you manage space? How do you generate movement, and potentially write it? What does it mean to write a dance phrase? What is a common vocabulary? How can it be combined with improvisation? The aim of the workshop is to try to answer some of these questions collectively, stressing the importance of communication, seeking solutions for the creation of a common choreographic structure, and understanding the need for negotiation to be able to move together.”
