Jérôme Bel

Idées chorégraphiques

16.11.23 — 17:30

CN D Pantin

The title says it all: the conference is meant for Jérôme Bel to present the choreographic ideas that have underscored dance and his own work since the beginning of the 20th century. To do so, he has devised a session during which screenings of taped shows alternate with discussions with participants. Through his dual perspective as an author and spectator, one’s perspective feeding the other’s, he wants to show how and why these pieces are particularly important, and how they shed light on his own career and his own pieces.

From videos to commentaries emerges another history of dance, where repertory pieces from collections and documentary funds – among which the CN D’s – exist alongside personal favorites found on the internet, with no restriction when it comes to period or style. An important event with one of the leading figures of contemporary dance.

Jérôme Bel

Jérôme Bel is a French choreographer who scrutinises the use of choreographic language by producing minimalist shapes that offer up a critical view of what makes a show or performance and what comes into play when they are received. This issue has been the essence of Bel’s creations since the nineties (nom donné par l’auteur, Jérôme Bel, Shirtologie). His series of portraits also looks at dance as experienced by dancers, including Véronique Doisneau, Cédric Andrieux, and Xiao Ke.

Jérôme Bel is currently associate artist at the CN D (2023-2024).
