Being able to situate yourself in time and in the world, becoming aware so as to intervene in mutating practices, putting into perspective your artistic choices: this is what is at stake when teaching the history of the choreographic art to trainee dancers. This reference work was conceived to accompany their preparation for the Diplôme d’État de Professeur de Danse. It includes contributions from specialists in dance history with a great variety in their methodological approaches, as well as a vast synoptic table displaying the diversity of genres, forms and techniques, from the 15th century to 1980.
