Presented as a listening room, the research conducted by Myriam Van Imschoot and Tom Engels is based on an encounter with two influential choreographers – Steve Paxton and Lisa Nelson – at Mad Brook Farm, a cooperative space and major experimental site in Vermont. A dialogue is mobilised as a place for the production of a critical discourse about contemporary dance, in a reflexion based on the heritage of the Judson Dance Theater, Contact Improvisation and the means by which theory can be devised. This audio material, made up of over fifteen hours of recordings, is the prelude to an artistic publication which is now being written.

Born in Belgium, Myriam Van Imschoot was
a dance critic before devoting herself to university research. She has developed a performative body of work and conducted several artistic projects connecting theory and practice (Voicelab, Oral Site...). As for Tom Engels, he directs the Brussels research laboratory Sarma, an analytical space of dance and performative practices. A regular collaborator with P.A.R.T.S., he is also a publisher, programmer and playwright.
