How do we envisage creating in the shadow of another, inscribing our intentions and our artistic writing, whether in dance, performance or the visual arts, in the lines drawn by others? Creating in the shadow of another is a creative tool proposed by Volmir Cordeiro that involves thinking about relationships and interactions to better understand where knowledge circulates. These days will focus on the challenges posed by a research-creation project: the place and role of writing, the importance of exchanges between peers, the challenges of performance and analysis, all connected to a dramaturgy under permanent construction. During the course, the aim will be to nurture and perfect this circuit of multiple activities that will link these different creative actions. It will also be important to be able to draw on the collective strength of the various proposals to foster a shared and enriching working awareness. Over the course of these days, everything will be met, reworked, imported, absorbed, turned upside down, digested and declined. This work is aimed at the artists we are trying to become, the spectators we are and the researchers who are constantly experimenting.
Volmir Cordeiro
In 2021, Volmir Cordeiro won the New Choreographic Talent prize awarded by the SACD. He has established himself in the choreographic field with a style that tends towards liberating intoxication, reconciling a festive atmosphere with transgressive movement. With each creation, he deepens his interest in spaces, urbanities and possible links with the margins and their metamorphoses. In addition to his career as a performer, researcher and choreographer, Volmir Cordeiro continues to teach in training courses in France and abroad (Master Exerce/CCN Montpellier, CNSDMP, La Place de la Danse, Centro de Artes da Maré, Danish School of Performing Arts, CND, Ménagerie de Verre, École de Beaux-Arts de Cergy, etc.). He performs for a number of choreographers (Lia Rodrigues, Vera Mantero, Xavier Le Roy, Latifa Lâabissi) and has been creating his own shows since 2012 with his company Donna Volcan: the cycle of solos Ciel, Inês and Rue, then the piece for four dancers L'œil, la bouche et le reste, as well as a video exhibition of the same title about the poetics of the face in the history of dance; he then created Trottoir in 2019, Métropole and Outrar in 2021, and Abri in 2023. In 2022, with Érosion, a creation for the dancers of the CCN - Ballet de Lorraine in Nancy, Volmir Cordeiro revisits the Ballets Suédois, a Dadaist troupe based at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées between 1920 and 1925. That same year, he presented an extract from L'œil la bouche et le reste to Cie Catalyse, a troupe of professional actors with disabilities, as part of the Vignette(s) project directed by Bernardo Montet. In 2019 he will be writing the book Ex-Corpo (published by Carnets du CN D), devoted to the margins in contemporary dance and the notion of the artist-researcher.
