Le CENTQUATRE-PARIS

The composer and director Heiner Goebbels (b. 1952) is one of the most important exponents of the contemporary music and theatre scene. His compositions for ensembles and big orchestras are currently performed worldwide as well as several of his music theatre works and staged concerts, mostly produced by Théâtre Vidy Lausanne, the Ensemble Up-to-date and Ruhrtriennale - International Festival of the Arts Ruhrtriennale. He created a great variety of sound and video installa- tions and worked for nearly 20 years as a professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen (1999-2018) and was President of the Theatre Academy Hessen for twelve years (2006-2018). From 2012 to 2014 he was the artistic director of the International Festival of the Arts Ruhrtriennale.

Heiner Goebbels is offering a vast workshop for young dancer-choreographers and improvisational musicians, who will occupy the main nave of the CENTQUATRE during the eight days of the workshop as a research & development phase of a new work, which spans one hundred and twenty years of European history full of contradictions, promises, crisis and grand illusions. The workshop dismantles the twentieth century and reassembles its individual parts in a landscape of voices, bodies, objects and music creating a new and poetic place where anything and everything is possible.
