Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse
With Aimilios Arapoglou
Damien Jalet is a Franco-Belgian choreographer and dancer. He is interested in the ability of dance to constantly reinvent itself when in contact with other disciplines, such as the visual arts, music, cinema, theatre or fashion. His pieces are often collaborative. As a choreographer and dancer, he has worked with such ballet companies as C de la B, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Chunky Move, Sidi Larbi Cherkaou, the Opéra de Paris, the Scottish Dance Theatre, or the Icelandic Dance Company.
Control and abandon: this duality is at the heart of Damien Jalet’s work. The choreographer is proposing to explore the relationship between gravity and the unconscious, while experiencing the laws of gravity, breathing, rhythm, geometry, physical memory, otherness and the sculptural potential of the body. This workshop, which is both technical and intuitive, invites the participants to dive individually or collectively into a choreographic exploration which is mental, sensual, visceral and playful.
