Collectif W

Collectif W, is interested in the relationship between words and actions, words and gestures. How can we describe movement? How can we perform words? How can we name what we do so that we can share it, discuss it, and pass it on? How can we find a language that is unambiguous and common to all members of a project, allowing everyone to freely appropriate the challenges of a work? Through its experiments, the Collectif W develops the tools that enable it to answer these questions: games to test performance practices, a system for notating performed actions in order to write scores, theoretical seminars, critical workshops, as well as articles and conferences. The Collectif W resides and performs in theaters, festivals, art schools, choreographic centers, and museums. 

The Collectif W proposes to continue its research by focusing on the notion of modulation: how to develop a movement over time, a word, a song, by constantly pushing back its action, varying its modalities, intensities, registers, exploring all its possibilities step by step, allowing unexpected ways of interpreting it to emerge? Through improvisation protocols with strict rules, this workshop will be an exploration of persistence: to try to understand how obstinacy can transform a simple gesture into choreography, a theme into rhapsody, a phrase into speech, a motif into architecture.
