Taking care of one’s health:
tools and resources for dancers

Cycle of workshops

13.01 > 2.06.26

CN D à Pantin

13.01
Autonomous strength training and flexibility work

With Émilie Torreilles

This workshop offers dancers the opportunity to explore independent work using tutorial sheets designed by Emilie Torreilles for the CN D. These materials, which focus on different areas of the body and are interconnected, encourage a gradual and consistent approach to strengthening and mobility. The workshop will be an opportunity to experiment with the centre and back tutorial sheets, using the equipment available at the Studio Santé to enable you to work independently in the future. Particular attention will be paid to the principles of alignment, which are essential in dance, and to working progressively.

11.02
Stretching and hip mobility

With Nicolas Brunet

How can scientific data be used to optimize flexibility and performance while preventing injuries? To challenge preconceived notions about stretching, the workshop will begin by clearly defining what stretching is, the different types of stretches and their effects, and how to effectively incorporate them into dance practice.
Next, we will look at practical examples in order to provide concrete solutions tailored to dancers' everyday lives.

24.03
Maintaining your centre and working on alignment through active resistance training

With Cédric Lucas, massage therapist and physiotherapist

After discussing the importance of the centre from an anatomical and physiological perspective, the workshop will present a variety of exercises that will help dancers feel their centre and strengthen their alignment. The exercises will emphasise the importance of breathing, and the use of elastic bands will facilitate awareness by allowing the intensity to be adjusted. The focus will be on finding the right movement and diversifying the exercises using the equipment available.

14.04
Breath as the start of any movement

With Magali Duclos

This workshop offers dancers a somatic approach in which breath is the main driver and organizer of movement. The practice begins by observing breathing in its natural state to initiate a powerful internal dynamic, originating in the bowels and soft tissues before spreading to the musculoskeletal structures. This process aims to develop refined body awareness, release tension and restore organic fluidity of movement. The goal is to explore a dance driven by deep tissues, leading to a more embodied, sensitive stage presence that is consistent with the body's internal state.

12.05
Pain as a warning signal

With Camille Rustant, osteopath at the Paris Opera

What are the mechanisms underlying pain, from injury to functional pain? What is the difference between the different ‘types’ of pain? The world of dance oscillates between glorifying pain as proof of commitment and progress, and neglecting a signal that requires adequate care. The workshop offers an alternative to the idea of ‘dancing with pain’ by providing tools for self-care and caring for others: the aim is to move towards a more conscious approach to dance and to incorporate care as a principle and goal.

2.06
Awareness and strengthening of the pelvic floor

With Gwenaëlle Caille

The perineum, which forms the base of the thoraco-abdominal-pelvic cavity, is a set of fundamental tissues that are often neglected in physical practice. This workshop will address issues related to exertion specific to the pelvic region. After awareness exercises, suggestions for strengthening and rehabilitation will be provided.
