Since 2011, Franco-American choreographers Liz Santoro and Pierre Godard have been working closely together to create generative and algorithmic choreographic objects that attempt to thwart the habits of our attention. Liz Santoro trained in classical ballet with Boston Ballet, and she holds a degree in neuroscience from Harvard; Liz Santoro had a career as a performer on the New York experimental scene, which has forged an inexhaustible curiosity for what the human body can do. Pierre Godard followed a deliberate path from science to directing and choreography, via a thesis in artificial intelligence, that nourishes his thoughts on the future of dance and its link to society as a whole. The singularity of their respective backgrounds has led them to develop original choreographic writing systems, centered on movement and text, which offer spectators playful, hypnotic experiences. They have created various group pieces, such as The Game of Life in 2022, as well as site-specific performances, such as Contrepoints in 2023, a prize-winning work for the “Mondes nouveaux” program launched by the French Ministry of Culture. Their work has been presented in France, Europe, North America and Asia.
