Cancellation of the Camping 2020 Festival

Given the health crisis due to the spreading of the Coronavirus Covid-19 and its consequences, and in accordance with the government’s pronouncements of 13 April, the Centre National de la Danse has been obliged to cancel the 2020 edition of the Camping festival.

This edition was to be held from 15 to 26 June in Pantin and the Paris region, and from 15 to 19 June in Lyon. The Camping festival was to feature 15 shows, including 9 French creations and premieres, while also offering a choreographic platform of 36 workshops for 800 campers – professional dancers and students from 28 art schools from around the world (Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong-Kong, Madeira, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the USA). Like every year, this edition was to be aimed at spectators, students, professional dancers, teachers working in the guest schools, children (through the programme Camping Kids), amateur dancers, dance researchers, professionals in charge of outreach, etc. The 2019 edition welcomed over 12,000 participants and spectators.

The CN D is more supportive than ever of artists who are currently in an extremely fragile situation. For this reason, the leaders of the workshops will be paid and the programmed companies will receive some of their rights payments, while these workshops and shows will also be reprogrammed during the 2021 edition of Camping, which will take place from 14 to 25 June 2021.

The CN D would like to thank its numerous public and private partners – patrons, cultural structures, media partners – who had committed themselves to us for this edition.

The CN D has been closed since 16 March, but remains active and committed to the professionals in the sector and the public, all along this unique situation. Our teams remain available, at once to guide professionals, by relaying the various measures and forms of aid on offer from various ministries and socio-professional organisations, by individually answering questions linked to the current context, and more generally by nourishing everybody’s curiosity about choreographic culture by opening access to new resources on cnd.fr and on the social media.

The entire team of the CN D addresses its warmest wishes to the sick and their loved ones, to carers and to everyone working in the essential sectors that have been mobilised to overcome this exceptional event and to plan for the quickest possible end to this crisis.
