Canal 2025
in Marseille

Fourteen active dance organizations
invited by CN D to CCN - Ballet national de Marseille

30 & 31.01.25

Ballet National de Marseille

9 French organisations and 5 organisations from the southern Mediterranean that are active in the field of dance are taking over the CCN-Ballet national de Marseille, the École nationale de Danse de Marseille and cnd.fr to present the work of 29 artistic teams that they support: performances, debates, project presentations and screenings.

By initiating the Canal project, the CN D is offering to make its resources and spaces available to the entire choreographic sector. For two days, the studios of the CCN-Ballet national de Marseille and the École nationale de Danse de Marseille will be used by invited cultural institutions (CCN, CDCN, national and regional venues, festivals, etc.). Since 2020, Canal has also invited international structures; this year, the southern Mediterranean is in the spotlight. The idea is to offer new visibility to their projects and the artists they support, in a shared space and time. Each organisation is free to choose its own programme and format: short extracts, screenings, oral presentations, etc. Creative projects can be presented at different stages of their development: in the process of being sketched out, seeking production resources, or finalised and seeking distribution. These spaces provide an opportunity for exchanges between the artists supported and professional spectators (patrons, programmers, administrators, etc.).

Dancers in movement: circulation, diaspora and institutional logics

Moderated by
Mariem Guellouz, lecturer and performer

Conference in English, translated into French

Bringing together artists from the Arab world with diverse backgrounds, as well as cultural players, this round-table discussion, moderated by Mariem Guellouz, will provide a forum for dialogue on issues related to programming logics and the difficulties encountered by dancers wishing to circulate between the two shores. In particular, it will look at the relationship between choreographers from the South and European structures. The meeting will be organized around three themes: the question of programming dancers from the Arab region in Europe, and particularly in France; the institutional logics consubstantial with the dynamics of circulation between the Arab world and Europe; the constitution of a new Arab artistic diaspora in Europe.

Working in the performing arts #2

Together with LAPAS, ThinkProd and partner associations in the sector, Onda has launched a series of meetings on the relationships and modes of collaboration between artistic teams and distribution structures. On January 30, at the Ballet de Marseille, the notion of power will be addressed, and how it is exercised in terms of inter-knowledge of professions, asymmetry of positions and human relations sometimes marked by conflict.
